A Case for Smiles: Pillowcase project for kids with cancer

August 11, 2006: I found a brochure for this organization, which distributes colorful pillowcases to children getting cancer treatment in The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, in Joann's.  Besides being a worthwhile cause, it gives me a chance to do something I've been wanting to do for a while:  Buy crazy children's licensed fabric!!  All images clickable thumbs.

Snoopy Halloween- I was hoping this glowed in the dark but alas, no.  Probably best that way anyway....the fabric is a current holiday print with that 1.99 poly/cotton as a border.  The polycotton, actually, is super smooth and gives a great finished edge.

This one is by far my absolute favorite.  It has kind of a Peter Max feel- for a teenage/tween girl.  I'm trying to make more for this age group since they need a pillowcase just as much as a little kid.  I made 3 of these.  This fabric is something called 'Sew Retro' and the border is that same poly/cotton.

And finally, 2 pillowcases from Madagascar fabric.  I found both prints on clearance since it's an older movie, hopefully the kids will like it anyway- I usually saw movies once they came out on video as a kid, anyway.  I had to make the border smaller and the rest larger but I think they came out cute- both prints are Madagascar themed and I think it works well together.

I promise nothing is crooked!  I had to tilt it that way to get the entire case into the picture.

If you contribute to this organization, send me a photo and I'll put it up here.
