Knitting and Crochet
The many incarnations of the Noro yarn: I got this yarn for my 20th birthday, in September of 2004. In October, 2004, it was a poncho. TBC when I get photos from the other computer. 2005: Fall- Alpaca hat for my roommate's sister in law with cancer...she died April, 2006. October-Baby hat and mitts for the Appalachian Mission Trip. June- a bag for a friend, made of some kinds of cotton/acrylic yarn. I just made the pattern up, and made crochet chains instead of an i-cord for straps. June-Sweater made for a friend's baby, made of Wool-Ease so it could be machine washed. The pencil buttons are from Joanns. May 30,2005:
Happy Memorial Day! A small bear, made from leftover Cascade 220. a Blackberry monster. May 23, 2005: A small knit bag for a friend's birthday. May 19, 2005: A newsboy hat for a client, made of Cascade 220. May 18, 2005: A little bear, from the Summer '05 IK, for a baby shower gift. Made of Lamb's Pride Bulky and knit on 10 1/2 DPNS. May 13, 2005: A dyeing adventure. I bought this cute little blue sweat shirt at K Mart for 60 cents. Nice, warm, sturdy, but probably part of a set that got lost. It needed a little pair of wool leggings. My leftover yarn (first photo: Lamb's pride, second photo: Patron's merino and some unknown wool) was nice, but heavy on the off white. It needed a little spicing up. The dyebaths are ready. I used boiling water and two packets of Berry Blue and Lime Kool Aid. I got it boiling, turned off the heat and then let the Berry Blue soak. The Lime was held up on a spoon and turned for a variegated effect. Then, I boiled some lemon jello and soaked the entire thing in it. It didn't do a whole lot to the color except add some warm, multi dimensional yellow shades to the yarn. The results were lovely. In order to get a darker blue, to better match the sweatshirt, I put the blue in for another soak. Now, blue matched the little blue sweatshirt almost exactly. The green would be trim and hopefully, a little hat. The last yarn is my favorite. It's almost an entire skein of Lamb's Pride worsted but only one pack of Lime Kool Aid. I dipped it in the dyebath at random until the water was clear, and came up with the loveliest light peridot green. It really brought out the mohair's shine. I love this color. Drying. I washed them all in baby shampoo to get all the excess dye out, and the blue felted slightly. I can still pull all the fibers apart, though, so it shouldn't be an issue. May 14: A birthday present in the making. The beginnings of a Headline News caps. My desk at the moment. April 28, 2005: Honeymoon cami from knitty, made by both my roommate and I in merino wool. April 10, 2004: Pink shirt made on mission trip. I added side shaping and a short eyelet hem. Go to the Knitting Archive |
